LINE PILOT          

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To bring help and hope to patients and families following a terrible trauma, a sudden medical event, or any medical transport. To be part of the finest EMS team in the United States.

The primary duty of a CareFlite line pilot is to safely transport medical personnel and patients to and from the requested locations.  In the performance of that mission the line pilot assumes responsibility for ensuring that the aircraft is airworthy and that the aircraft is operated in compliance with all FAA regulations and CareFlite policies.

This position requires a personal commitment to CareFlite’s mission and core values and the willingness to demonstrate those core values in all activities performed for CareFlite or while representing CareFlite.  The incumbent(s) of this position are active participants in the organization and support the changes necessary for the organization’s survival.

REPORTS TO/SUPERVISES AND IS EVALUATED BY:

This position reports directly to the Aviation Base Manager for all routine operations issues.  All CareFlite pilots are responsible to the Chief Pilot for compliance with company manuals and government regulations. This position is evaluated by the Aviation Base Manager/Chief Pilot.

CareFlite line pilots work collaboratively with other members of the CareFlite staff (mechanics, medical personnel, and communications specialists) to safely and effectively accomplish the mission of patient transport.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety as measured by incidents/accidents and compliance with all parts of operations:

Functions as Pilot In Command during flight and ensures that all CareFlite flight operations activities are in full compliance with company procedures and government regulations.

Directs medical personnel as necessary to ensure safety of aviation operations. 

Ensure that all CareFlite flight operations activities are performed to the highest quality standards.

Ensures personal compliance with CareFlite safety programs.

Customer Service as measure by customer service surveys and debriefings

Ensures that appropriate documentation, logs and records, are completed and maintained for all flight operations activities.        

Ensures personal compliance with CareFlite safety programs.

Demonstrates tact and diplomacy when dealing with CareFlite customers and/or when functioning in role as a CareFlite pilot.

Urgency as measured by proper response times to the aircraft when dispatched while maintaining safe operations and required duties.

Quality Assurance/Improvement as measured by compliance with neat and proper documentation such as DFR/DMR, time and duty, maintenance log book entries:

Incumbent(s) will actively participate in quality assurance/improvement activities as directed by their supervisor.  Each incumbent will acquaint themselves with the quality assurance surveys and/or quality improvement projects which affect their practice and adhere to the standards or changes implemented.  Each incumbent will provide feedback in a positive proactive manner for quality assurance/improvement activities which impact their practice.

Fiscal Responsibility as measure by identifying efficiency or cost savings in aircraft operations:

All will include at least the following two items: 

Incumbent(s) will search out opportunities to utilize their free time while on duty to improve their professional skills or participate in work related projects.

Incumbent(s) will identify efficiency or cost saving ideas in a timely manner to their immediate supervisor. (Other fiscal items pertinent to specific job)

Educational level required.

Additional certification/licensure required.
